SPACE FOR A BETTER WORLD

To connect the space curious to the space serious through events, experiences and storytelling using the awe and wonder of space exploration.

Being in the presence of those who have ventured beyond our atmosphere is always a special experience.

As our cameras rolled, we had the privilege of witnessing the convergence of bright minds and passionate individuals, all dedicated to the common goal of creating a better world through space exploration.

Their stories, determination, and the spark in their eyes as they spoke about their journeys left an indelible mark on everyone at Harwell for the #RiseTogetherUK event

Here's a glimpse into behind the scenes…

The enchanting universe of space captivated hearts at Oxford's Harwell campus during this year's World Space Week. On October 9, London's Piccadilly Circus witnessed the unveiling of a spectacular art mosaic, a celestial masterpiece crafted from hundreds of entries in the #RiseTogetherUK competition. Young minds were invited to illustrate their visions of space, and the result was nothing short of awe-inspiring.

In the spotlight were NASA astronauts Nicole Stott and Susan Kilrain, accompanied by the UK and ESA astronaut, Tim Peake, and the renowned science communicator Brian Cox.

This grand event aimed to fuel the imaginations of the next generation, echoing a NASA study that underscores the decline in creative thinking as children grow older.

Nicole Stott, an artist and NASA astronaut, emphasised the importance of tapping into creativity to address planetary challenges. She shared, "The opportunity to fly in space and paint with watercolours gave me a better understanding of how powerful the inspiration of space exploration is. We all have the opportunity to rise together as crew mates here on spaceship earth."

Behind the scenes, Christina Korp and her firm, Purpose Entertainment, orchestrated the #RiseTogetherUK campaign and events for Harwell Science and Innovation Campus. Their mission is clear: to amplify public awareness of Harwell's groundbreaking work and inspire individuals from all backgrounds to pursue fulfilling careers in the space sector.

The Harwell Space Day on October 10 immersed 300 local schoolchildren in interactive space-related activities, setting the stage for the 'RISE TOGETHER: Solutions Summit' on October 11. Coinciding with the International Day of the Girl, this summit aspires to foster inclusivity and offer a platform for women leaders from Harwell, alongside influential figures like Nicole Stott and Susan Kilrain, to share insights in space and tech.

In the face of a rapidly evolving job landscape, with 65% of today's primary school children expected to step into roles that don't yet exist, Christina Korp emphasised the significance of igniting creativity. "While technical skills are fundamental, creativity is hugely important for envisioning the unimaginable," she noted.

Today, Harwell campus stands as a hub for leading science and technology organisations, symbolising a commitment to nurturing the spirit of exploration and innovation. As we reflect on the cosmic celebration at Harwell, we're reminded that every job on Earth will find its place in the vast expanse of space. The journey of rising together continues on spaceship Earth, fueled by the awe-inspiring wonders of the cosmos.
